Joan Mitchell Untitled 1959-60 oil on canvas Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art |
My palette, later that day after experiencing her painting for a couple of hours. I was focusing on seeing structure, so there wasn't a conscious attempt at similar colors. Its mostly, if not completely, a superficial similarity, but one's visual diet does impact perception and subsequently action. It appears that we only operate out of our own local reference frame (to borrow a physics term) that depends on its one's genetic makeup combined with rearing and any subsequent growth. This is where the ideas of philosophy (perspectivism, constructivism, TPD), cognitive science, psychology (perception) are fascinating and intriguing, however the tedium (albeit necessary) of consistently defining words becomes annoying.
