New Large Canvas

(the auto timer took me longer than I expected, so it caught me going to change the camera settings )

Finished stretching my new canvas - only took me two days. It's 68x64 in. or put another way, I'm 5"11 & 3/4 in tall - 6 ft with shoes on. There was the 7 hours to stretch it, doing my best to keep each canvas grain parallel to the frame and making sure the stretching tension was as even as possible. It also took me a lot of time to put on three coats of Utrecht Artist's gesso & sanded between coats (after breathing in so much dust, I'm snotting white boogers - I should really get a new dust mask.)

For all that work, I get a canvas that has even tension. I'll try and put up a video later, but my canvas when you tap/smack it, bounces back, sorta like a trampoline or creating waves that flow back and forth in a wave pool. It's quite a lot of fun to paint on a properly stretched canvas, especially when it's so large. Most student stretched canvases (and many store bought ones), the canvas just falls flat and I hate paint on them.

I've got to finish this large painting (as well as 7 others) by Dec 7 for my BFA show - I'm so stupid.
